1950s vintage Turkish Milas Rug. Wool on wool. 100% root dyed and Kirman(hand spun) wool. There is plenty of writing on this rug lots of information what makes it even more special. The letters in Turkish say "BU ÇiÇEK (this is a flower)  HALI (carpet) BU EV (this is home). UM ÖS (should be the shortened name of the bride and the groom) 1955 (the year it's made) STÖ (we haven't figured out these initials yet but working on it

**Information about Milas Rugs

*Milas region and the Türkmen tradition

is one of the regions in Turkey whose inhabitants kept their heritage in its liveliest (the term Türkmen is often used in Turkey to denote ties to the former semi- lifestyle). As aside clothing and traditions this heritage also includes the art of carpet weaving. It is generally admitted that a distinctive breed of Milas rugs came into existence in the 16th century starting with the "seccade" rugs which are smaller in dimension. By the 18th century and the 19th century two types of Milas rugs traditional (or classical) and could be distinguished on the basis of their colors and designs.
